  Ø Expressing Opinions
When we are negotiating, expressing opinions or simply chatting with a friend, we often have to agree or disagree with the other person. Also, we don’t want to make a fight out of this, so we must know how to show empathy with different opinions and also disagree without sounding aggressive. It is very difficult to convince when they think you are attacking. We need to express our opinions and, at the same time, show that we are listening, understanding and appreciating the other opinions. If they feel comfortable, they will be more open to our ideas, opinions or suggestions. Here are different ways of doing so in a conversation.

Asking opinios :

– What do you think of …

(Apakah itu benar bahwa…)
– Do you think it’s going …
(Apakah Anda pikir itu akan …)
– Why do they behave like that?
(Mengapa mereka berperilaku seperti itu?)

Jane     :Hi  Ellen, what are you doing?
Ellen    :Hi Jane, I’m writing a poetry
Jane     :Poetry? for the special one?
Ellen    : Absolutely, tomorrow is mothers’ day so I would like to give this poetry for my mommy.
Jane     :Mothers’ day? Oh my god! I forget about it
Ellen    : Calm down Erika, why don’t you write a poetry too?
Jane     : No, I cant write a poetry
Ellen    : Do you know what is the thing that your mommy likes?
jane      : She likes flowers
Ellen    :How about buying a flower vase, I think your mommy likes it.
Jane     :That sounds good idea, but Clara would you mind to accompany me to find it out after class end?

Translation

Jane: "Hai Clara, apa yang kamu lakukan?"
Ellen: "Hi Erika, aku sedang menulis puisi"
Jane: "Puisi? untuk seseorang yang spesial?"
Ellen: "Tentu saja, besok adalah hari ibu jadi saya ingin memberikan puisi ini untuk ibu saya"
Jane: "hari Ibu? Ya Tuhan! Aku lupa tentang hal itu"
Ellen: "Tenang Erika, mengapa tidak kamu menulis puisi juga?"
Jane: "Tidak, saya tidak bisa menulis puisi"
Ellen: "Apakah kamu tahu apa hal yang suka ibumu?"
Jane: "Dia suka bunga"
Ellen: "Bagaimana tentang membeli vas bunga, saya pikir ibumu akan menyukainya"
Jane: "Kedengarannya ide yang bagus, tapi Clara apakah kamu keberatan untuk menemani saya untuk menemukannya setelah kelas berakhir?"
Ellen: "Dengan senang hati"
jane: "Oh terima kasih banyak Clara"
Ellen: "Jangan sungkan-sungkan Erika"
