The text is a letter of complaint. It is a kind of business letter. A business letter is a formal means of communication between two people, a person, and a corporation, or two corporations. Business letter is more formal than a personal letter.

The purpose of business letter is to inform readers about something or possibly persuade the readers to do something.

There are many types of business letters. Some of them are letters of acknowledgement, letters of adjustment, letters of complaint, letters of inquiry, letters of order and letters of response.
While writing a business letter, you should pay attention to the seven C’s: clear, concise, correct, courteous, conversational, convincing, complete. Here are some tips in writing a business letter:
1.            Keep the letter brief and to the point
2.            Do not use shortened verb forms-write them out (i.e.”do not instead of don’t”)
3.            Always keep a copy of correspondence for future reference

Dear Sir,
I must write to tell you about an embarrassing incident which was caused by your staff’s carelessness. It happened this way.
            Last Wednesday I ordered a birthday cake which cost Rp. 200,000 from your confectionery and collected it on Sunday. As the cake box was nicely tied up, I did not open it to look inside. I gave the cake to my cousin as a present for her birthday. Soon, it was time to cut the cake and everyone gathered around. My cousin untied and the box and took off the cover. Imagine the shock she got when she found two large cockroaches inside. She was also very embarrassed because the guests started laughing loudly and were reluctant to eat the cake. My cousin was very angry and I had to spend a long time explaining to her. In short, the incident nearly ruined her party.
            As the box was securely tied up and I didn’t open it until it was time for my cousin to cut the cake, the cockroaches must have got  in before I collected the cake. I wish to know what action you intend to take against the person who is responsible. I also would like to know whether I can get a refund because the cake was contaminated by the cockroaches . I enclose the receipt together with this letter.
